DQS: Quantifying the subjective.
Device manufacturers have long depended on expensive consumer preference studies to help evaluate display quality. But now, manufacturers can quantify perceptual quality improvements in their products by using a new 3M tool: the Display Quality Score (DQS). It calculates expected viewer perceptions of quality based on display size, resolution, luminance, and color gamut. With 3M DQS, manufacturers can more easily choose which configuration of display characteristics will achieve the best mix of market appeal and profitability.

Achieving International Telecommunication Union’s Recommendation BT.2020 color with LCDs.
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) set the bar for color reproduction very high when it published recommendation BT.2020 for ultra high-definition television (UHD) back in 2012. Since then, no mass-produced TV technology has been able to achieve the standard exactly. 3M scientists on our Display Solutions team studied how close color primaries must come to the targeted standard to be considered Rec.2020 compliant. They studied both consumer and professional applications, and if quantum-dot enabled devices can reach a high level of compliance.
